And Seb Coe has the gall to say it won't be a white elephant? Two poorly attended athletics meetings a year does not a legacy make.
| If it helps improve the state of athletics in this country as a whole, then i'm quite happy for it to stay as primarily an Athletics stadium.
The athletics funding and support across the board at the moment for the youngsters is a joke.

looks alright. surprised there's no roof, but then i suppose with the way english summers are now it can then double as the swimming venue.
would have thought it would have made sense to be (if possible) a bit more flexible about what the capacity was reduced to and do everything to get a club of some sort on board before submitting final plans, as having a set 25k capacity has got to seriously limit their options now.
| There will be no club involved. No Professional club at least. It's a stipulation of the contract they've signed with the IOC. </BLOCKQUOTE> Quote:
After the Games have finished, the temporary seating will be taken away and the stadium will become a 25,000-capacity venue with a permanent athletics track.
An anchor tenant such as a football or rugby club is actively being sought, but one has yet to be found.
| they want an amateur club as their anchor tenant then? in a 25k stadium? </BLOCKQUOTE>
Going on what was reported previously in the last month or so. Trying to find a link to a story i read now where they said that it's a condition of the contract with the IOC.

I don't think the IOC have a problem with a professional club taking over the stadium, but I think the condition is that the track must stay.

yea, that's my understanding too. The track has to stay.
Which, if you're taking away 50odd thousand seats, should be quite doable.

Stadium doesn't look too bad. Could always use it for 2018 as well. Its in East London isn't it?

why would the IOC insist on that? the Sydney Olympic Stadium is used by three (soon to be four) NRL teams and an AFL team as far as i can see.

| not going to be used for 2018 when its capacity will have been slashed and it'll be smaller than Wembley and the Emirates.

It may be misinterpreting by myself on the way it's being reported tbh. It's more likely that Athletics has to be a primary use for the Stadium than anything else, though if that is the case, it's very plausible that professional football clubs wll not be receptive to the idea.
