Default Is the gap between the powerhouses of Europe and the less European teams getting bigger? (spoilers)

Basically a spin off from the results we've had this a season and the last few in the champions. I remeber when I was younger and growing up (mid 90s) they're didnt seem to be the 8-0 type of result that we have had tonight from the Liverpool game...I mean I havent researched any of this, purely basing this on my memory but is there a larger gap than there has been for quite some time between the big european teams (especially the english ones) and "smaller" teams like Besiktas etc?

Is it all down to money? Is it just teams like Ajax who used to be top teams arent churning out the quality players anymore? I think its to with the obvious one and thats the amount money and attractiveness that the big big teams now have.

Anyway i thought I'd open this up for discussion for people more informed as its something i've kinda noticed, just interested as to what others thing.

I havent really followed footie to closely recently only kept my eye on Juve and Italy so I may be completly wrong here. I check results every week and stuff though, just get a bit bored watching footie nowadays.

Nah, Rosenborg proved that. There'll always be that gap because of the silly money some of the larger teams get, but its not insurmountable.

The really big wins like 8-0 rarely happens these days to though.
Early in this decade Rosenborg used to be thrashed by the likes of PSG and Lyon, but now they beat Valencia...
I think a lot of the so called lesser leagues has improved a lot.

Norwegian teams are doing better in Europe than in a long time, the same goes for Swedish teams.

Of course there will be a gap, both with money and the ease of attracting quality players, you will never see the world's best footballers playing for Scandinavian teams, that's just the way it is

Its just the league format of the CL gives them less chance to continue to the latter stages of the tournament

I think generally the minnows are being a pain. Who would've expected Norwegians and Greek teams to do so well this season, for instance?

Powerhouses that win 8-0 yet are still only 3rd in their group? I fear for the diddy teams on that evidence.

Considering our record win is 11-0 back in 1974, no. Besiktas a whole 3 goals better. Added to that they only went and beat us a fortnight ago. Everything went right for them that night, just as everything went right for us tonight.
