Default how do you work out the mean when you have a table

say a table is like:

less than 5 - 5
5 but less than 10 - 40
10 but less than 30 - 30
30 but less than 50 - 15
50 but less than 100 - 10

You do
2.5 x 5
7.5 x 40
20 x 30
40 x 15
75 x 10

Add together divide by 100.

Find the mid point (x) of the data. Multiply that by the frequency (f).

f x X = fx

add all the fx's and divde by total frequencies

That will calculate an estimate for the mean, not the actual mean though, I'm guessing that's what you are after?
