This is the one that really shows up the stupidity. In Israel they employ heathens to push lift buttons on the sabbath. They call themselves orthodox then come up with workarounds so they can disobey the spirit of their laws whenever it suits them to do so. What's the point in that?

Rules are there for a reason, to ensure parity amongst the students, not to foist separatism upon them.

Along the same line as "it's only a bangle ffs, let her wear it", perhaps the parents should also adopt the same attitude and tell her to take it off during school time....?

Anyways...I really don't see the problem. Why not allow here to wear it? Such strict rules seem pretty pointless.
It's because certain other folks will then demand the right to wear a bag on their heads. </BLOCKQUOTE>

Are you bothered by those folks doing so? </BLOCKQUOTE>

Yep, absolutely. </BLOCKQUOTE>

Its a bangle. Not a piece of headgear or a face covering hishab. </BLOCKQUOTE>

I know that. So why did you ask me if I was bothered by folks with heads in sacks?

that's ridiculous, why can't they use the buttons? </BLOCKQUOTE>

You are not meant to do any creative work on the sabbath i.e elevator buttons, phone dials writing down notes etc

Wtf? Such an odd sentence.

It's a bangle ffs. </BLOCKQUOTE>

The school has a no jewellery rule. So they then try and argue the fact that they have a right to wear it on religious grounds, the school deny them that, so she gets suspended. Thus hampering her education.

She's there to learn and not there to display her religion, if the latter does not conflict with the former, then fair enough, it is conflicting, so she should therefore follow the rules the school have decided.

trainers instead of school shoes is a bigger thing than a bangle. </BLOCKQUOTE>

Not when other girls decide to start wearing bangles too. Then they start wearing several bangles etc etc.

Kids will push boundaries. If they allow one kid to wear a bangle on religious grounds, you'll have a bunch of other girls wearing bangles and trying to claim it's their right due to their faith, whether it is or not.

School's already lack discipline, allowing exceptions to rules based on religion will merely serve as a suggestion to kids of an exploitation or loophole in the rules, one that some of them will gleefully take advantage of.

Brett P, i wanted to see why you are against the bangle. People say that if you live in this country then adopt to our ways.

It is not that easy, especially were religion is concerned because it is a more important part of some peoples lives than you realise.

She even said it reminds her to do good a bit like my catholic mate and his rosary or muslims and their subha.
