I'm about to pay off one of my credit cards but was thinking about keeping it for emergencies. Once it's at £0 do I have to keep paying the minimum amount (I think it's £5) every month and build up a credit or can I just ignore the card until I need it again?

If you dont use if for a certain amount of time they will probably contact you and ask if you want it cancelled.

Your minimum payment should revert to £0. I have a Halifax card that's been at £0 for about a year.

How would you have a monthly bill if you hadnt bought anything, it just reverts to a min payment of 0.

The "minimum payment" is £5, so I wondered if they'd force you to build up a credit on the account.

Surely the "minimum payment" of £5 is when you have a balance to pay off? Has it always been £5 even when your balance was at its maximum?

You need to check your terms and conditions.Some credit cards will charge you if you dont use your credit card for a period of time!

It's usually £5 or 2.5%, whichever is the greater.
