Overall I'd advise you to only get a Mac if you need it for audio/visual or design purposes, don't just get one for the sake of it.
It's not just for the sake of it. The fact that there's no virus on Mac is a big plus since I am the king at getting my PCs fcuked up really fast even with the latest anti-virus.
I use my computer to watch TV or listen to French radio to keep up with what's going on back home, is it enough to consider that I will use it for audio/video purposes? </BLOCKQUOTE>

True there aren't many virus problems but if that's all you want it for, then it's nothing that a PC won't do for cheaper. The only plus for you would be the smoother operating system as Dan mentioned.

There aren't any (that I know of) self replicating virus that will harm your system without you giving them permission to do so.

So it's more of an issue with how you use it than anything. Changing OS won't help there

What do you mean by "giving them permission to do so"?

I might go on the wrong websites or have too many programs opened at once but I thought Mac were more "stable" than PCs and crashed much less so it would help to get a Mac if this is the case.

There's no such thing as a virus free computer - they are just programs. The issue is one of risk at the end of the day, and you are at far less risk with a Mac, so you're on the right lines. The point is, you should never be complacent.

There a trojens and such out there that need you to enter your password for them to function, no software can prevent that.

A mac may help you if you set it up right (there are plenty of really good books, websites and video tutorials out there), but maybe you just need to change how you use the computer, or rather find a better source for porn.

So do I still need to buy an anti-virus for Mac or is it so rare that it's not really necessary?
