Agree with the 'no magical age' comments. I left home when I went to uni, came back for a few years afterward, moved out when I could afford to, then ended up home again when I got into bad financial circumstances. I was 26 when I moved out for good. Even now, I don't own a house, but that's only because I'm liking being rootless and moving around. I'm doing alright for money, and out here in California (which is expensive for the States), the cost of living is significantly cheaper than it was in London.

Yeah i moved out and rented for a couple of years after uni but soon decided to move back with my folks so i could save up and buy (was 24 then and wanted to buy when i was 26). Sadly didnt quite go to plan, mainly due to the house prices being so ****ing stupidly expensive down here (my freaking one bed cost me the best part of £200k ffs) so didnt end up buying till i was 28.

house prices will not just crash whilst the rest of the financial sector remains the same.
those of you waiting for some big house price crash as if its the answer to all of your problems are living in cloud cuckoo land.
| What this man said, there will be no crash, prices may start to level out but there is no guarantee they will.

An £100k mortgage - you could literally get nothing with a £100k mortgage down here £700 a month would be bliss |

tbf to miller, he didnt say there was going to be a crash, he said the market was slowing down. I'm taking that as he measn it's going to become more stable, so making 30k over a few years purely by the price of a your house raising that much is less likely.

I will be 23 later this month and still living at home. I think it depends on individual circumstances really. There is no magic number. I get on well with my parents and have a nice size room for £110 a month which is nothing considering I get 20 Meg broadband, full virgin TV package and food bought for the house.
Why the hell would I want to move out and share a flat with some goons and struggle by, paying a ridiculous amount of money on rent that I wont ever see again? Saving money at the moment and when the time is right will hope to get a mortgage. Seen to many friends really find it tough all because they simply couldnt get on with their parents.

Instead of renting you could look at putting that money into buying. That's what other people seem to be talking about

moved out just over a year ago (when iwas 23) and live with 4 friends. My bills/rent/food probably costs me less than £100 more than what I'd give my parents were I still at home, which is totally worth the fun of living with friends and away from home.
Can't understand why people think renting is just 'wasted money.'

Wasted in that you dont get anything out of it really. People with high rents can put that money into buying a place and have an asset that is worth something at the end of it.
To me, renting, which i do here, is kinda like buying my freedom as well. I've never been a big fan of mortgages and never been one for being tied into stuff like that. I ever want to leave, move, etc I can up and do it whereas having a mortgage is a different ball park.
