We are all going to go to the rugby at Ibrox as well you know, the whole thing will be good though, unless some of the miserables who never want to see anything different or interesting happen and complain about money that would not have been available anyway nor being spent on something "more worthy."

At least they had the stadium and they hosted the all africa games which is logistically bigger than the commonwealth in terms of numbers of athletes etc. They hosted the youth world cup in 99. Suprise suprise only England moaned of safety before departure.

I think the original poster was being a little flippant and trying be funny, not serious.

Abuja did itself no favours with almost openly trying to bribe the committee in the last days, and Glasgow presented a sensible, financially viable bid which noted the emotional argument of Africa having a right to stage the games, but as yet, even the African delegates feel it was not the right time.

New York is no longer the murder capital it was, indeed it is now one of the safest places in America for the tourist to visit.

As for the rugby 7s being held at Ibrox, the area (or the stadium itself) isn't being upgraded because of one event. Unlike Celtic Park and the surrounding area so I'm led to believe.

Strange how Hampden Park wasn't used for the opening ceremony.
