Rep Power: 10 | Basic question about the value of the U.S $ compared to the £
As everyone knows the value of the $ has plummeted down roughtly meaning that each £ is now worth $2.
I don't have any knowledge in economics but that to me makes it seem like a great time to import from the USA but not to export.
So, my point is when I look at Ebay hoping to get things at around half the normal price I'm finding that things are really cheaper at all.
Basically, am I overlooking something, and how can I use the value of the US$ to my advantage (other than going there on holiday!).
Cheers guys, sorry if this is a really stupid post but it's been on my mind today!

really does depend on what you're buying and from where tbh.

Depending how much you have, you could trade all your money for $ and then keep it and when the value drops a bit trade it all back and you'll make a profit. Really don't think its worth the hassle but you could make a fair bit if you take the small risk.

Don't buy too many items in one go if you're buying things like DVDs or clothes, you'll be hit by massive import taxes if buying direct from a store.
It'd be better to speak to a friend in the US if you have one, buy stuff online that has free delivery and get it delivered to his address, then get him to send it to you with "gift" written on the packaging.

Anything that you buy that was made in the US would be cheaper but it's not like the $ to Pound (don't have the sign on my American keepboard) ratio went to 2 to 1 overnight so the whole "I'm gonna save money" is really only true over long periods of time.

You don't necessarily have to buy something from the US now though. The $ has been very cheap for quite some time now, and it's very unlikely that it will become more expensive again in the near future. It'll probably get even cheaper over time
