Although I've no skill at all with either, the guitar is generally accepted to be much the easier. And guitars are generally a lot cheaper than pianos.

Whats easier/more fun to learn, guitar or piano ? Post #3
i'd say guitar is easier, and more fun since it won't take you that long to be able to play some cool songs and enjoy yourself, while with piano it would probably take a while to get to that stage, you'll be doing stupid amount of repetitive scales, kiddy tunes.
Piano is quite rewarding though, and I probably would have found guitar a bit harder to learn if I hadn't learnt piano beforehand.

Having learned both; Guitar all the way. Much easier to learn simple stuff, you can spend forever perfecting it though!
Piano is harder, as you have two hands to control playing multiple chord patters/melody/counter melody. Plus if you're going to be reading music, there are two different clefs to consider. Guitar, it's one with the fingering and one with the strumming/picking. Beginners usually use tab, which is easier to pick up.
Also, from a practical point of view, it's easier to lug a guitar around and if you want to play with others, there is always less gear compared to a piano/keyboard.

Guitar is definitely easier and cheaper. All you need is a couple of chord charts, and Google.com to look for your favorite song's chord sheets. Tabs and barre chords aren't that hard either.
Piano takes a bit more out of you, plus the need to learn to read music and musical theory. I learned piano as a kid so its pretty much second nature to me.
