Our little girl is quite in love with music, notably rock/metal. She likes Amon Amarth and loves Doro :cool:

Off lately, she's been playing the air guitar. The other day, there were guitars for sale in a magazine, she said she wants one.

Seeing as learning to play an instrument was the one big omission in my education, I would definitely be willing to let her have a shot at learning to play the guitar.

Can an almost 7-year old learn that already? Do they need a special kiddie guitar?

The sooner the better. Take her to a music shop and let her try some out. My dad has a superb little Joey travel guitar that would be perfect.

never too early to start. you can get 1/2 size and 3/4 size acoustic guitars in plenty of music shops

i think the main thing to do is make sure its not just a phase, i remember wanting to play the guitar when i was little and almost talking my parents into buying me a guitar and then never doing anything about it. Maybe pay for a few lessons first, and if shes still interested then buy her a guitar.

You can get new kids' sizes guitars for £25.
It's the lessons that might be the expensive part - unless they run them at school?

You've got to get her through the air guitar phase though - else she could end up like this!

go to a guitar shop and ask their. or if you are going to get her lessons ask a teacher first. travel guitar probably best at that age

Also, while I would normally suggest its better to start on acoustic, it mgiht be better to get electric if she likes rock/metal. at that age most important thing is to keep them playing, so if she whack on a bit of distortion she will probably love it

go to pmt (if you're still in birmingham) and try out some squier guitars or some cheap yamahas. I'll go along with you if you want a second opinion on anything

you'd need an amp as well, iirc they don't do that many cheap practice amps at pmt (except the marshall ones, which aren't very good) but you can probably get good ones elsewhere or online
