it's been a real struggle to get the green light to expand the current system and get government funding, don't really think there's any way they could justify a complete overhaul with a shift from overground to underground.
| they got the green light and funding years ago though, then Prescott took it away and gave it to London, the ****. Not sure how good any expansion would be though, I don't like the Salford line as it is, too slow, trams too infrequent, the routes are too long, the stops don't seem to be situated in decent places. But the Bury and Altrincham lines afb and don't need changing at all.
It'd be silly to have an underground in the city centre, it's great that you can just walk onto a metrolink in the street tbh, I don't want to have to go down an escalator to a damp, hot, stuffy hole in the ground, and that really would encourage crime.

| I assume that's the city and not the city centre, you can walk anywhere in the city centre in 15 minutes, 20 maximum. It's not too spread out at all.

the point being you get the tram to Piccadilly gardens or St Peter's Square and you don't need to get back on it if you want to go somewhere else in the city later, it's just to get you in and out of the city, not to move people around it.

| Would that be too much of a change for a Mancunian? |

| Then it would make even more sense to have night trains. Some people wouldn't mind not paying for a cab or having a designated driver I'm sure

| all true, can't see it ever happening and it's no big deal. would speed the system up a bit though i'd imagine - no having to stop at red lights, no kamikaze pedestrians in the way etc.

not bothered about the speed in town, only takes about 5-6 minutes to get from G-Mex to Victoria, not a problem really.

I know that, but unless they can make money from it then it's not going to happen. There's not many people use it around midnight, so afterwards during the week it'd not have many people on at all. Most people who go out in the city during the week are the students who all live on the bus routes so don't use the met.
