How does this work exactly? Did Cofie have a contract with Burnley? Isn't that akin to child labour?
I've got a feeling that it would be only really legal and morally OK if there would be no talk of money at all until a person reaches 16, everything else is an attempt to dodge child labour rules, no?

He probably had a verabl agreement to join the Burnley academy when he was old enough.
That verbal agreement would be enough for Burnley to be eligible for compensation if he left to join another club.
This does happen a little too often, but sometimes a player needs to go somewhere where he'll get to train with better facilities and coaches. As long as the club is compensated properly (and
IMO £250K is nowhere near enough) then that should be allowed. </BLOCKQUOTE>
£250k (which is an underestimate afaik, and doesn't include the friendly we've agreed to play which will earn them a fair bit presumably) seems fair enough for a kid that may never make it and who's only been with Burnley a year or so. they'll get somewhere in the region of £1m if he makes it to our first team, which isn't bad considering it will have been our coaches/facilities etc that would have got him to that level - a level he probably wouldn't have got to via a (with the greatest of respect) lower quality youth setup.
