I always struggled with gap year jobs because each time they pulled anything like that I just thought - "I don't need this hassle, I've got far better things lined up in my life to lose sleep over this and be bossed around by these fools"

Dont go in. He hadnt informed you of any change and then cant expect you to come into work on a whim when you are having a weekend away on your days off because it suits him. And job threats only come from people on a power trip.

let him take it to a disciplinary and state your case. I would hope they would see sense and realise this is a no win situation and realise that they might not have told you about the change and then notify you the change starts as of now.

he sounds like a tit - if he's not told you you're shifts have changed, he can't expect you to work. sounds like he owes you an apology. go and see the store manager if you get any more hassle.

and certainly don't feel bad that you told him you were at a football match and feel you have to lie about where you are what you do with your time off is nobody else's business

What everyone else said. Just because you have a manager doesn't mean they can treat you how they like.

Plus I imagine all the official procedures will back you up. Even if you get an offial warning it's not the end of the world is it?

i used to work at tesco, and they are indeed a bunch of abo****e ****s.

string them along for a few weeks while you sign up at a temping agency or something like that, and then stitch the bunch of dicks up as best you can

god they really are *****

Wouldnt you have to sign something if your shifts change?

Terms of employment of something?

There should be strict codes and practices wrote down that dictate what they can do and what should be done in situations like this.

If they wont take your side and believe that you were told about the shift change then ask them to provide evidence that a shift change can be confirmed verbally and without clarification on your part as to whether there and then was fine.

I know at the place i worked a member of staff from a different department walked off site on them but when they attended their disciplinary hearing because it didnt say anywhere that a member of staff couldnt up and walk off site they got away scot free.

 if they were trying to bring me up for AWOL or indeed anything else, in the manner they're treating you, I'd go straight down to one of the other supermarkets and find a new job, hand in my notice and create as much **** as I could for tesco until I left.

I always feel quite happy though in some weird way. I just work over the Xmas, Easter hols etc from Uni back home, nothing during term time at all, so I'm just using them for some relatively easy money for a few weeks at a time. The wankers that run the place though, are there all the time. That makes me feel good... they deserve it
