It must be said, before I go on, that I still enjoy watching and playing football. The sport is the beautiful game. Why then does it seem to be less and less beautiful every season?
We can barely go a week without another football saga; either Robben is going to Real Madrid or Tevez wants to move but goodness knows who owns him. And, I can't be the only one who finds these things just plain frustrating.
I had, in fact, hoped that the Tevez saga had come to a long overdue finish when he finally signed for Manchester United and ran out in a red shirt. How wrong could I be? Now there are talks of second third party contracts between the Hammers and Kia and more legal action! Enough already! I know the fans care about getting players to their team and winning - that's part of the game.
But I think the English game was, and still is, being severely hurt by this whole move. As a relative neutral in regards to the Saga; I can honestly say, I don't care about petty bickering between clubs. If they want to do it, do it in private and don't drag the Premiership into disrepute.
Another point: At what point did a player require £100,000 per week in order to perform to the best of their ability? The fact that Arjen Robben supposedly wanted to go to Madrid, then said that the sum they offered him didn't quite meet the amount he wanted, just shows how weak some "loyalties" really are in football.
These guys are supposed to be role-models. All they are currently teaching is to grab as much money as you can and have no regard for anything else.
No wonder Sheffield United say they've lost millions - that's probably the cost of the wages that they can no longer aford to pay!
It's getting ridiculous - Darren Bent worth the ridiculous amount Tottenham paid? No. He's a good player but lets face it - that kind of money just inflates egos and leads to players demanding that extra couple of thousand per week.
No wonder the conference is becoming more popular!
