Exactly my thoughts on the matter, but you have a point Docker it gets people talking about it so wp Cadbury!
Although whether it'll make them buy a dairy milk the next time there at the shops who knows?
1. Flogging something, be it a new product trying to find a foothold or an existing sale/ sales situation that is being continued.
2. Reminder advertising.
The first set are all brash and normally quite shouty about what's on offer (DFS, "New and Improved" washing powder etc). These you will see more often as they get them out there to remind you all the time about what's on offer.
The second set is all about retaining and improving market share. This is the home of the clever ad, they don't need to shout about how good their product is, as it is already selling.
What they need to do now is to make sure that you remember their product over a competitors or just to keep you reminded that they're out there.
