What would you do in this situation (work related)
Here's the scenario :
I have a good job, I'm doing well, recently got promoted and all's good. Apart from the fact that I don't really have a big passion for what I'm doing.
4 weeks ago I got talking to a guy I use to work with, who now works for a major music orginisation. He told me I should drop in a CV, that they are always on the lookout for people with my background. I didn't think much of it at the time but then started to think about it. I decided I'd send in a CV and see what happens.
So, I updated my CV on Monster. The next day, I got a call from a recuitment agency who had a role with the major music company in question! Good coincidence eh? It just so happened that I had Thursday morning off so I met the recuiter. I must have made a good impression as the company in question want to see me next Monday or Tuesday to talk about the role. Herein lies the problem :
I can't let my employer know I'm interviewing with another company. I've no holiday days left for the year and I can't ring in sick as I have to fly to the UK on Tuesday with my boss, he would know I was lieing. I have a really good relationship with my boss so I don't wanna lie to him.
The company can only see me on Monday or Tuesday, as they've already interviewed 3 people for the role, and they can't wait until Thursday (when I get back from the UK)
What do I do? It's a really good opportunity. I could tell my boss the truth, but, they have invested so much time training me and have given me so much responsibity, there would be a major ruckus if they knew I was thinking of leaving. Say I tell the truth, go to the interview, and don't get it. Then what??
Bottom line is I need to think of a believable excuse to leave the office for 3 hours on Monday, that doesn't include illness. Any idea's?
I'd only really consider leaving my current job to work for the company in question, I've always kept an eye out for jobs with them since leaving college, hence the dilemma.

Tell that to your boss? If you have a good working relationship with him, surely you can explain to him that this is your dream job and that it's always been something you wish to try and go for, but that if it weren't for this, you'd not even contemplate any other interviews?

sorry I should have pointed out, in my job if you leave the office to go to the dentist/doctor they ask for the receipt/note to verify it.
Gregg you make a good point. It would be a major thing to tell my boss though after all he's invested in me. He decribes me as " our new great white hope" to clients. The recruiter has told me my relativly young age may go againts me, but that If I "wow" them with my personality I could swing it my way. There's a lot at stake. If I don't get the job my whole working dynamic with my current job would be tarnished.
Re the funeral excuse, I could try but, I'd honestly don't want to lie.
Number one excuse at the moment is,
"i have to accompany my girlfirend to the doctor's for a private appointment "
