Wireless lan help (i know there is a thread but i posted and nobody answered)
I have a BT wlan at home, with the router downstairs, one PC connected by ethernet cable, up to 3 laptops connected wirelessly and then the xbox 360 also connected wirelessly.
In the 2 months or so ive been home this lan seems to have been fine, but today especially the connection has been stupidly erratic, and now my internet keeps disconnecting every minute or so, although oddly MSN seems to stay online alot of the time and i cant browse websites. Also today xbox live was fine, and then suddenly started disconnecting, so i thought maybe my router has a problem, but Ive tried resetting it, etc to no avail
I think the problem might be that my computer starts automatically scanning for other networks in the area, since it finds about 5 of them
Also the connection speed goes from like 54mps to sometimes 1 or 2
any ideas?

Could it be interference? What electrical items have you between you and the wireless router? And is the wired connection fine when the wireless is acting up?

Try the setting that makes the computer automatically choose the connection you are using now first in the priority list (wireless network connection settings). That should sort it.
You should also be on a closed network with a netword key, and not an open network. Other computers using your network that you don't know about can cause capacity problems.

Ive had the problem before where it just doesnt load web pages but everything else is fine, and like you said a restart fixed it, that'd be once every blue moon though.
This is like all day its been disconnecting and reconnecting every few minutes, everything is effected, Xbox live too, just found out the other laptops are having the same thing too. The ethernet connection (im on now) seems fine though?
Anybody know if BT itself is ****ed or is something randomly wrong with my network?

i had the same problem, internet just wanted to start being a complete bastards. found out after ringing up my ISP that it had something to do with the electricity boxes, one of the switches in it had knocked off. no interference, neighbours broadband was doing well, it was just mine. it's gotta be the same thing. try it, it's some major electricity box that they have for each area.

If you have the patience of a saint ring Mumbai up and get them to do a line test. It may just be the line playing up. Possibly ask your neighbours too if there having problems.
