Check your re-writer drive for what type it is and buy the disks matching it. Your drive might even be +- in which case it doesn't matter but DVD-RW are more commonand will play on most (if not all) DVD players.

thanks for your reply - I'll check what the DVD writer says on it when I get into work. Do all DVD writers says whether it's a '+' or '-' or even both?

Pretty much all DVD burners now are both. In the earlier days there were 2 formats, once written they are the same but it's a different way of burning.
If your DVD burner is only one type then you need the specific disc type for it.

thanks for the replies - the dvd burner is a brand new one, got it last week, so there's a chance that it'll take both, but at least I know what I'm looking for now!
