A friend of mine is a Carlisle fan living down south, I'll have to ask him about the grim days of Conference football and southern mid-week fixtures.
Can't see too many of them travelling in those instances.

Went to a couple of Venezia games where you could count the away fans.
One was Serie B, the other was in Serie C against Olbia.

Watched Newcastle in the Anglo-Italian cup back in '92. Can't remember specifically but I'd be amazed if the away teams brought many if any fans at all to St James'.

Few years ago, Telstar - FC Emmen. There were 5 Emmensupporters (I was one of them).
Still, it can be worse :o
3 Seasons back, FC Eindhoven - FC Emmen, tuesday evening, Dutch Cup 2nd round. No one really gives a flying f$@k about the Dutch Cup. Attendances was around 500, including 4 Emmensupporters (yes, I was one of them).
Sometimes the opponents of FC Emmen bring a few supporters to our homegames. On some evenings we invite them awaystand into our supportersbar to drink a few beers together, mostly depending on the result and the rivalry between us and them.

When AB plays against teams from Jutland some times they only have 2-3 of their fans with them (that's in Danish 1st division (2nd league) BTW)

In the first division it's even worse. I saw:
Fortuna-Cambuur with 19 away fans.
MVV-Volendam recently with 8 Volendam fans. Eindhoven-Veendam with 9 awayfans.
Eindhoven-Cambuur with 15 away fans.
Haarlem-Eindhoven with 2 away fans
Recently De Graafschap visited Roda in the cup and brought 16 fans.
