The Crown Prosecution Service is the principal prosecuting authority in England and Wales. We are responsible for determining the charge in all but minor casees, advising the police during the early stages of an investigation, reviewing cases submitted by the police for prosecution, preparing cases for court and the presenting those cases at court. The role of the Service is to prosecute cases firmly, fairly and effectively when there is sufficient evidence to provide a realistic prospect of conviction and when it is in the public interest to do so.
As the principal prosecuting authority in England and Wales, we are responsible for:
Advising the police on cases for possible prosecution.
Reviewing cases submitted by the police.
Where the decision is to prosecute, determine the charge in all but minor cases.
Preparing cases for court.
Presentation of cases at court. | Nothing about its role in appeals, but I don't see what other authority or organistion would be in a position to provide the crown case in an appeal?

| Basically that's what I thought. I think it's a pretty huge miscarriage of justice tbh.

| There are lawyers that work for the Crown, who are completely separate from the CPS iirc. I think the CPS only present cases in court for minor cases.

I blame Gene Hunt for the assumption of a fit-up.

| That's certainly not the case. A friend of the family works as a lawyer for the CPS and she's been involved in some very high profile cases. Even saw her interviewed on Sky News outside the High Court a few weeks back.

Will he be due compensation if the retrial finds him not guilty, or will it be an unsafe conviction or something meaning he’ll get nothing?

| No, I think it still counts as due process.

there was a documentary on this last week and they conveniently left out how he used to follow women around taking secret pictures of them.
