| Whilst I take your point, you're assuming that the sales of CDs are 100% profit.
If a CD costs £4.50 to make (After retailers / distributors get their cut) then 50,000 * 50p is £25,000, whereas 10,000 * £5.50 is £55,000.
And to add to the FM/CM piracy list, the first time I saw CM was the original version on a mate's Amiga. As with all Amiga games, it was a pirated copy (Has anyone ever even seen an original Amiga game? Did they even exist? ). I only had a megadrive, but when my father bought a PC I've bought every CM since. Without that pirated copy, it might have been a long time before I saw CM again.
Same applies to loads of games - Sensi Soccer and Speedball 2 I first saw on this mate's Amiga, then went out and bought them for the PC.

I agree with most of the guys article tbh, I buy albums of the bands I like and albums I like, I go to see bands I like when they are in the country on tour and probably 90% of the bands I like are from listening online on myspace/purevolume etc
if somebody makes a rubbish album, it gets deleted and I don't bother with them again, but if their album is good, I will buy the physical CD to support

All these geeks downloading music for free... surely thats significantly boosting gig revenues for smaller artists?
How much does touring contribute to an artists income?

Thinking about carrying out my own personal study of how downloading affects sales.

The music industry will keep trying to combat this, but piracy will always be one step ahead. They closed down Napster, then re-opened with subscription.
People refuse to pay, Torrents are introduced. I'm not advocating it in any shape or form but like everything in life, some people go for the cheapest option, more often than not in multimedia terms this being 'free'.

People don't show restraint, they use 'it'll never happen to me' philosophy, so no amount of laws or restrictions will work.
| They aren't going to win against piracy, they have already lost. The best they can hope for is that they see sense and create a service that allows people to listen to whatever they want for monthly fees, but I doubt that will happen either.

| I had the original of CM 93/94 for the Amiga \o/
My proximity to the Barras at the time meant it was one of the few legal games I possessed /o\

Don’t know anyone who had original Amiga games. Why did they always come in such a massive box?

I had quite a few original games tbh. Mainly because most of the time, the cracked games didn't actually work properly once cracked, so if i really liked them when playing the cracked version, i'd actually go out and buy it.
