You'd probably be interested in the Holy Roman Empire Andy, as it would encompass Poland to some degree.

'The Great Crash 1929' by Galbraith pretty immense - F.D.R the greatest American president?
Can anyone suggest any other books on North American Depression, 1919-1941 - preferably recent though.

Kolin said 'A History of Britain'. If that is like the TV series it may be a good staring point.
