For whatever reason, my housemate was casually looking through this list of various hangings that took place in Derbyshire. Amongst the various crimes you'd expect to find in the area, such as murder, rape and sheep stealing, in 1800, someone named Thomas Knowles was hanged for "uttering a note". A google search has proved futile, so can anyone actually tell me the story behind this?

Although i don't know anything about the particular case in question, "Uttering a note" was issuing and/or circulating forged banknotes.
