Default Advice regarding a cheque

Evening.

I've got a cheque from my college as a prize for a competition that I took part in. The bank on the cheque is the Co-op. My bank is HSBC, and therefore if I was to put the cheque in tomorrow morning it would not be credited until about Wednesday or Thursday. I need it for Sunday.

The finance director at the college is under the impression that if I go to the co-op bank, I can give this cheque in and get the money in cash. I've never heard of this before and would be grateful if anyone could shed any light on this?

Thanks all

if its made out to you then i doubt that you could get cash back from co-op unless you have an account with them. which you dont.

I wouldn't be getting it "back" as such, I'd be getting it personally rather than the co-op having to process the cheque and give the money to HSBC

Never heard of being able to do this, and it's not in the bank's interest because they miss out on the interest they get whilst the cheque 'clears'
