Do I think Calzaghe would have got different treatment if he'd have said something similiar? Yeah. That's because anyone with even a modicum of intelligence can see the difference.
It's like if I tell you your Mum is a slag. Trouble is your mum just died last year.
I think what I'm trying to say is that Joe Calzaghe's Mum didn't die last year, so it's alright to bring her into things, wheras a Black person's metaphorical Mum has been dying for the last 200 years, so it's best not to look like a complete dick and take the **** out of her.
| The thing is, if your Mum died last year you wouldn't be making mama's jokes... imo if you make mama's jokes you should expect jokes about your own Mum too, whether she died the year before or not becomes irrelevant.

Hypothetical question here. Were a white fighter to say he would never lose to an Asian/Mexican/insert nationality, would it still be considered offensive?

Possibly, due to the white man being history's greatest oppressor.
So, we colonised all these countries for what, exactly? A bit of gratitude wouldn't go amiss, eh?

An AFL player made a comment on his MySpace page along the lines that, "white friends are temporary, black friends are for life" and that only black friends could be counted on in a fight. When I rang up a talkback show to speak to a representative of the player's team about the comments, his first line was, "It's not racist, he's indigenous." |

Ah yes, a good old racism thread. The go round in circles and no-one ever gets anywhere.
Black people are more racist than white people. You know why? Because black people are always made to feel inferior, mainly by white people. So black people HATE white people and this is particularly true in places where the blacks are in a minority.
But anywhere where a race is in a minority it's normally not up to that race to be tolerant to others IE: a black man in a "white man's land" is already accepting. But does the white man accept?
Similarly, if a white man was in a "black man's land" the black man would have to accept that. I think there are very few cases where blacks have oppressed whites, so you could say that black people are, and have historically been, more tolerant to other races but have not been given the same level of resepect. Hence the hatred.
In the words of a famous man: "Black people don't hate Jews. Black people hate WHITE PEOPLE. I don't care if you just got here. 'I'm from Romania!' 'Romanian cracker!'

There are lots of people made to feel inferior for various reasons. That doesn't excuse a vendetta against a broad group, most of whom have never caused them problems. If people justify feelings of persecution, they only perpetuate them.
