90% of the people posting in this thread should consider buying this book and reading it before posting again in this thread.
I am not joking.

The demo lasted 6 months, you wouldn't have known about the international qualifiers bug, the resetting of your career for an international team when you resigned from a club team or the problems with board expectations from it.

Top and tail of it all is that a game was released that didn't work properly . Something that seems to be becoming a habit . A patch is the released for the paying punters to do the testing that should have been done prior to release .
One day very soon games like this one are going to attract a very serious trading standards investigation . if it was a car with as many design faults there would have been lawsuits long ago .

I think that "car comparisons" are not the best.
I know what you mean though.
Things won't change until we, (the customer), make them change.
If only a very few copies of the game were purchased upon release, then SI would change their tactivs and delay release and publish the finished product. As we all, (or at lesat many of us), rush out and buy the game as soon as we can, despite knowing that we are gonna encountrer many of the problems that we encountered last year, (and a few new ones to boot), SI have little reason to change their stratefy.
We are to blame for the status quo because we accept it by continuing to but the product in it's unpatched form year on year.
If I was SI, I think I would do as they do if I'm honest. It makes sense if you imagine yourself sitting in a FM strategy meeting.
They get what they can right in the game up to a point, and then release it regardless and then fix it afterwards. This allows them the bonus of adding in the anti-piracy bugs that are included in the patches.
We have the power to change the way that SI work, but we chose not to use it.

| If you read through this thread your see a great constructive discussion between people with different views, people who bought the game, Matt from Sega, Ter from SI and the testers!
What ruins a lot of threads on here is pointless fanboy idiot comments like that. The irony is, you should buy and read the book yourself! |

| Excellent post. This is definitely the case, although you would hope that companies would already be motivated by the critical responses alone. In this day of blogging and web forums, you would think that companies would do all they could to avoid the negative publicity and that comes with substandard releases, even if it means delaying a launch.
I can tell you that my company takes such things very seriously and listens very closely to the voice of the customer. Feedback from customers is placed at the very center of the business and drives all decisions, from product development to sales and support.
Quality standards are set very high in order to maintain international certification, and the quality performance measurement has stood at 98% for some time now. This has met the documented company goal, which is a maximum of two negative feedback responses of any kind per 100 products sold. That means two negative comments about ANY aspect of the product per 100 sold. That includes shipping and delivery. Try to match that, SI!
Jimbokav1971, you are definitely correct in stating that the 100% sure way to get results would be to stop buying the initial releases. If sales were down 20 or 30% during the first few weeks of a new game, then that would get SI's attention in a hurry. It's too bad that it will never happen, because there is no way to organize such an effort, and there would always be new customers and fanboys to minimize the damage and give them a false sense of security.
