I understood at first, but I am honestly stunned that they have not got the patch ready yet. Just how many faults are in this game?

Cheers for that, mate. It's just too bad that Sega forces you to release this game before it's ready and before your hard work has reached completion. It gives you all a bad name and makes testers and developers look like villains. The real villains are the cancerous lot at Sega.

And if someone like Matt claims that it's not Sega, then it's no matter to me. Whoever was responsible for NOT delaying this game is guilty of leading us all down this path and making you lads look bad. I was stunned when I saw the release date of mid-October. I was anticipating December. And it turns out that December might have been a far better choice.

It's uncanny how we started seeing "commercial considerations" and bad decisions about releases and patches once Sega bought SI. That's quite a coincidence, isn't it?
You are making it sound as if "big bad SEGA" are forcing us to do stuff or standing around cracking whips.

I don't know why you are so shocked that the game was out in mid-October either as over the years that has been round about when it has been released.

I would rather have chosen to get a fully working game in December instead of a seriously bugged game in October. It doesn't really matter if you release the game in October or December, it's unplayable until we get the full patch.

Fixtures not showing up
Non qualifiers in the European Championships finals
Keeper instructions changing after a you make a sub
Getting promoted twice and the board not giving you a new contract as you didn't meet the aims of challenging for promotion.
Ball height looks false
Board unhappy when you sign a favoured person
Disallowed goals, far to many
Board and fans being upset when we win a game comfortably, espically when I beat a team 2 divisions above me
Fans still being unhappy with a signing you made months ago, yet prasing him repeatedly for being great
Player gets hattrick and only gets a 7
And this a favourite of mine, you win the game 2-0 and after the match it says you lost and the results and league table show you have!! This has happen a few times now.
Out of interest, how regular are the worst of these issues? I've only played international management so far and therefore haven't really noticed any of them.

FrazT - I have little to do with the actual testing of the game - I do see the amount of hours that go in from the SEGA test team. AFAIK, it's grown every year, as has the experience of the team testing it. They also improve their tools and techniques for testing something like FM with each year that we work on it. The guys do a professional job and take pride in it - as I've repeatedly stated, the two things I hate on this forum are the car comparison posts, and the blame the testers threads - neither of them have any basis in fact...
Matt- neither of my last 2 posts were criticising the testers (Beta or in house ) or their professionalism in any way- I just asked the question if the teasting and QA had kept pace with the growth of the game and why, if the testers have most of the bugs flagged pre-release, do they always ask for another save game.

I can't believe people are still creating threads like this one.

It has repeatedly been said that the closing down bug was picked up by testers as soon as they had received the build it was introduced in, however by the time it was reported it was too late to go into the gold code, as fixing it would have had knock-on effects which wouldn't have been fixable in 2 minutes.

Do you guys honestly believe such a blatant obvious issue was not spotted by people that do nothing else when testing the beta than to look for exactly these issues?

It's not like we download the beta and start fun career games with it. It wouldn't even be possible as everytime you get a new build you have to start a new game, so it's pointless.

Please stop blaming the testers. And stop moaning.

I'm fairly confident that 90% of the people crying about it here, wouldn't have noticed it if it wasn't pointed out as an SI by SI.

Everyone is just jumping on the moan-bandwagon as there seems to be some kind of pleasure to be had out of moaning which I can't seem to grasp.

Kriss / Matt - Unfortunately though selected for testing last year the debacle put paid to that.

I'm known in a small way to Marc Duffy with document reviews for a few releases of the game manual in past years, its clearly of a much higher standard these days.

I've documented my job, my experience in testing is not much short of 20 years. If I can help in future releases I'd be glad to, if not I'm still happy to play and enjoy this game as I have done with every release since the Amiga days (CM4 was slightly less enjoyable)

We all wait for the patch with enthuisiasm and also with aprreciation of SI's and Sega's efforts in making this a good game. For some this results in feisty posts but ultimately we all want the same thing FM to be working perfectly so that ultimate enjoyment can be had

I think a good idea would be to dig out the link from last year when people detailed what sort of thing they did when playing FM e.g. people dressing up in suits when reaching a cup final etc, jumping round the room at 4am with a late goal and getting told off by a neighbour etc. That thread had me in tears at times and would ease some of the frustration if read / re-read - it was sooooooo funny. I'm sure Kriss can recall this one!

At the risk of offending you, maybe that makes you a little naive .

I had to restart my first FM07 game because I encountered "the history bug". Actually, I didn;t have to restart, I CHOSE to restart. Others encountered it and it didn't bother them because it is a rather "cosmetic" issue, but one which affected the way I enjoy my game nevertheless.

I also had to restart FM06, (can't remember why now). So I have had to restart FM07 and FM06, (I also restarted FM05, but felt that was completely playable out of the box). So if I have had to restart my game after patches on each of the last 3 issues of FM, I woudl be naive to have expected anything else.

Did it stop be buying the game as early as I could? No.

Did it stop me starting a save that was designed to be a long term save? No.

Does it stop me getting frustrated when I encounter things that I wish weren't in the game? No.

So the option that I've had, that we all have, that in fact we have always had is that you can wait until the patch comes out and play the game in it's full glory.

My experiences have taught me that expecting to play a long term save from the off, with any recent release of FM, is pretty naive.

That's not really a pop at SI or or Sega, or even a pop at the naive people like myself who expect more despite our past experiences. It's really just an admission that this is the status quo in this area and we should maybe learn to accept it.

That sounds a little defeatist, (maybe even a lot defeatist), but getting frustrated at finding serious bugs in the game, (as I have done), seems silly in retrospect, when if you asked me a month ago what I hexpected from FM08, well I would have probably got it pretty right.

I would and did anticipate that my GK getting sent off would still not be a key highlight.

I would have said that there would be at least 1 issue with the match engine that everyone would have beenclamouring about.

I would have said that there would still be instances of GK's behaving like outfield players and appearing up the field at the worst possible moment.

I would have said that there would be issues with the finances in some league.

I would have said that the LLM game would be affected by something like reputation, (it is actually confidence).

So I guess what I'm trying to say is, SI have delivered a little below par in this one. They tried to fix something with the beta patch, (which we all clamoured for remember), and this in turn probably made the game worse and not better, but imagine the state of this forum if they hadn't even tried to fix it .

Maybe it's not the product that is the issue here, but our expectations.
