What I don't understand is SI don't seem to care that people struggle with this shoot/goal ratio weirdness. Assuming there is something wrong with the tactics used by people who get this problem you'd think SI would hand out some hints as to what to do.
Its been said that SI deliberately "mis-labeled" the sliders to make it interesting to the "hard-core" players who like to spend hours meddling with tactics. I suggest that this is the minority of players. Why would you force the product into such a niche? Perhaps they got scared by the new guys developing CM and thought they'd differentiate FM from CM by making FM only enjoyable to the hard-core crowd.
BTW, there is no magic bullet solution lurking in the Tactics Forum, nor in any of the excellent wwfan articles on other websites.
I been extensively using the RoO and Ro2 frameworks, including the entire RoO tactics set and not seen any improvement in my forwards shot/goal ratio.

Its obvious that some people will blame your tactics(like the posts above), but then they come up with things like, its your tempo, too much CF in your team, the defensive line is too high, your players must be having too many shots from distance, i just laugh, as my tactic instructions include the following...
Tempo - 1 click right of slow.
CF - Absolutely none throughout the team, except AMC.
DL - Mine is set to 7 click from the left which is two right of deep.
Long Shots - Every player is set to rarely.
I am still hoping beyond hope that the problem is because of Major Bugs in the game that will be sorted out in the Official Patch, but the truth is, i cant help but think that this is down to essential coding from SI, simply because the game has become so easy and they needed to throw in a stopper to bar you from winning every match.
Just watching a few games in full, i'm sorry but i cannot see this sophisticated match engine that people are drooling over, it looks weaker than last years to me and i think that is showing in the amount of results like above.
I'm happy to admit that in my game playing as Arsenal, the opposition have a 1 goal in 3 shots on target ratio, which IS very similar to real life stats, but then my own goal scoring ratio is 1 goal in 12 shots on target, which is a complete farce and i'm willing to bet that in RL those kinds of stats have never been seen?.
I'm not writing this as Gospel, but i have noticed that since the demise of "Super Tactics", these games have become much more prevelant than the usual 2 or 3 shock games a season in previous versions?.

i also dont understand why so many people keep denying there is a problem and defend si on this. Dont they ( fanboys!!) realise they are the ones preventing the game from progessing. Whenever there is a problem raised, they will say "Oh, it happens in real life too, didnt you watch who vs who?" come on, we are talking about common sense here. This is a major turn off in FM2008. We shouldnt be made to hunt for the solution in the tactics forum most of the time. This is a game, not a school project where we have to go do tons of research at the library.

What you have to understand is that this behavior i.e., abysmal shot/goal ratio, is deliberate. Imagine what the scores would be without it. SI are not going to change it because its exactly the behavior they want.
Once people realize that it might either stimulate them to become a more hard-core player, or to give up with the FM series and find a product more suited to their tastes.

Hmm..I dont believe it is delibrate. If SI are only interested in 'stimulating' people to become 'hard-core players', then aren't they turning away newbies? and if they are, they would'nt have included an in-game tutorial in this new version. I've been playing this game since 1994 and bought every version and I still wish I can play it for fun and not to turn 'hard-core' and bearing the burden of the chore of having to look high and low through those 'theories and theorems' to find something that will help me enjoy the game. Mass appeal is what increases sales isn't it? no way SI are trying to drive the casual gamers away

I dont think my posts have been rants, incase thats what you were thinking?.
I have tried to make it clear that i will reserve judgement until after the Official Patch, as there's a possibility i could end up eating my words?(i hope).

Arsenal would dominate games completely and end up drawing 1-1 with the opposition having one chance.
This happened against Aston Villa, Middlesbrough, Everton in the space of about 2 months.
They also lost to West Ham under the same circumstances.

What I hate is that most people don't whinge or complain as much when they win a game through unrealistic circumstances.
I've had heaps of games with 30% possesion, 10 shots to 20 and still won which kinda ticks me off since I don't know whether my tactic is working or the game is skewing it in my favour.
