IRL I have seen managers win trophies for clubs and not have their contracts renewed....sometimes clubs feel that once a manager has been at the club for a length of time that a breath of fresh air might make the club and players aim higher....look at vialli at chelsea he did brilliant and was replaced by gullit who did well and was replaced!

ok in the case of vialli and gullit there were other factors involved which aided the sacking of vialli and being replaced by gullit but it does happen....a few years ago Real Madrid won the league and replaced their manager....i think....I'm sure that's what happened

just had a quick look on the internet and found the article i was looking for:

'Real Madrid sacked coach Fabio Capello on Thursday, 11 days after he led them to their first Primera Liga title in four years. We have taken the decision not to continue with Fabio Capello next season," said Real Madrid sporting director Predrag Mijatovic.'

'We don't think Fabio Capello is the right person to lead Real Madrid into the future given what we want this club to achieve. We have evaluated all he did as coach. He worked under enormous pressure and achieved an important result in winning the title. But we have to have a little more than Fabio Capello gave us this year. We always have to look for people who can give us more than just results. Because of the history of our club we have to offer more than that. We need to play a different football to last season. We need something more so our fans can enjoy our football again.'

he had two years remaining on his contract! and also stated in the article is the fact that they sacked Vincent del Bosque a day after winning the title in 2003...so yes it does happen in real life....don't you think that Capello had probably exceded the boards expectations in winning the title in his first season!

That's fine for R Madrid but Macclesfield!

Also, what makes me think it is a bug is that throughout the three seasons the board were telling me that I was a great success not just short term but far exceeding all long term expectations. Then, the last board confidence they were delighted and at the same time very dissapointed in the long term achievements and I
must improve.

I'm not denying that it could be a slight bug but I was just trying to highlight the fact that even managers that have exceeded board expectations can get the sack...

Not really.

Madrid will always expect you to be challenging for or winning the title as they are a dominant force in Spain. Capello, though, was very unpopular in Madrid during his time in control of the club. He played a defensive style, dropped popular players (Ronaldo, Beckham) and was also eliminated from the Champions League early.

del Bosque - looked him up and he seems to fit the bill of a successful manager who didn't have his contract renewed. So yes, we have one person sacked despite performing exceptionally well at his job. (I'd presume it would relate to power politics amongst the board - sadly FM doesn't model this accurately)

Cheers
Andy

Granted. It all depends on the team, manager and board I suppose.

Still, I got round it by not saving, then reloading and sacking the ass man. The board appointed him after me even though he was just a fitness coach. I had given him the ass man job because I needed another fitness coach more than an assman.

Then created a new user, resigned from the job and reapplied with the new user. Sorted.

I suppose the players might be a bit unhappy as many of them had the old me as their favoured person, but I should be able to win them round!

Here's hoping.

I know this is a bug and all that and that it should be fixed with the patch. But to all those who screams unrealistic, didn't some spanish manager not get a new contract despite winning the league a couple of years ago?
