Well Andy... Im trying just that now. Starting with Stevenage in BSP, and as is always my aim, to progress through clubs and leagues, right to the very top. It doesnt work out that often i have to say. However, in FM08 i had a great run of jobs.
Think i started at Peterborough in L2, guided them to promotion, then took over at Donny who were struggling, took them to playoffs.
Then ended up at Palace who were in relegation zone after half a season, took them to the playoffs and won in 2nd part of season.
Took over at Man City, and finished in Euro places, and finally ended up at Arsenal.
Think that was over about 5 or so seasons. Man City was the most fun. Nedless to say my club lovalty stats weren't that good but Great fun! Love moving onto bigger and better clubs. Good luck!!
Jim

is it possible to have a real managerial career in fm08? Post #12
I'd love to have a proper career - however I end up getting too attached to my team and my players. Especially the young 'uns - which I don't want to leave in the hands of the next manager who will inevitably mess them up. I'm too loyal, me

I always like a good career game last one on 07 was Rochdale, Preston, Carlisle, AEK Athens, Porto, Newcastle, Inter Milan and Man Utd. I wouldn't say it was always successful but you have to roll with the punches at times!

In previous incarnations I've had very little trouble taking Chester out of the Conference to the premiership in almost consequtive seasons (usually 2 seasons in League 1 or championship). I think this is also quite common for a lot of LLM.
FM07 seemed to make such feats a bit harder, which was greatly appreciated, and I'm relishing the thought of taking Altrincham up to the Premiership in FM08. Hopefully it will be even harder / more realistic again.
Scotty
ps. Often it seems I'm able to assemble a squad in league 1 that's good enough to compete well in the Championship. But i've obviously had a few seasons by then to identify potential targets, wait for contracts to run out and plan the revolution. If you want a hint from a nerd, when the calender hits May 30th, avoid the "Continue game" button and line up some free signings. Even better, have them lined up in January because some have their contracts terminated before the summer.

You mean try your hardest to put together the best team and tactics, only to see your side finish anywhere between 7th and 15th, finally with a bit of luck consistently finish top 6 and maybe even get promoted, spent a few seasons finishing anywhere between 10th and 17th at the next level, and maybe with a bit of luck finish top half every once in a while?
Nope, impossible. The game makes it a little too easy to be overly successful in the long term in my opinion, always has. Every manager has big ambitions for their career. Not every manager makes it to the top. In FM it seems every human who plays ultimately reaches the top within a decade or so. Maybe it's good for general player happiness, but i'd like to see my in game persona fail miserably from time to time.

Same here. In the past I've moved onto a much bigger club and ended up spending money on bringing all my good youngsters with me just so they can keep developing. Of course, about 75% of them were plenty good for my smaller team but would never get a game at my big team so end up getting sold.
These days I make a point of deciding if I'm at a team for the long haul or if I want to work my way up before starting.
In FM 06 I went from Championship (Norwich) >> Premiership (Bolton) >> La Liga (Barcelona). Unfortunately I lost that game when my laptop died. Ah well.

Doing that at the moment. I've got Africa and Asia loaded, as well as Iceland and England. I've started at the bottom of South Africa.
