Picture the scene, Irish minnows, Bohemian F.C. (managed by myself) are playing in the 3rd Qualifying round of the European Cup. Only one club stands between us and Champions League football, Olympique Marseille. The media don’t give us a chance in hell of beating them, and rightly so; my team are good, but nowhere near the level of the French side.
So, we go to the Stade Velodrome, hoping to keep the score respectable and in front of a massive 50,281 supporters we defend well and come a way with a credible 0-2 defeat.
I was delighted with the display as was my assistant manager (and judging by the player’s morale, they were too). However the fans were not. They were ‘very disappointed’ with our performance and unhappy with our inability to convert our chances. Convert our chances?!?!?!, we only had two all game and both of them were shanked over the crossbar!
The performance in Marseille, according to my board, is the worst during my career (worse than a 3-0 drubbing at home to Derry).
Anyone else suffering from unrealistic supporter expectations when you are a massive underdog?
Only played on game as a massive underdog in pre-season, but I did experience exactly the same thing.
Fans do seem to assess the game and are not happy if you have that few chances, regardless of the quality of opposition. It's fair enough that they would LIKE to see you have a go, but not that they should EXPECT anything. I'm not sure the game understands the difference between like and expect.
I've seen that several times. During my tenure as Harrogate boss I've taken them up to League 1.
Last year I got to play Man U in the FA Cup. We were beaten, but not humiliated 3-0. Which is a pretty good achievement we were really a L2 side that got lucky! But oh no, not for the fans or the board who will 'take some time to get over this'.
What?! They should be glad my little team were not spanked into a cricket score.
This one of the reasons I haven't really gotten into FM08 yet, Im gonna wait for the main patch then try and get going with it... seems too many bugs, still a good game though

its not a bug, its just an evaluation of supporter feeling. If you consistently get this from the fans then the board may act
I completed a season finishing 6th and gaining Euro qualification through losing to Arsenal in the Cup final. I think I still have 5 reports of the fans moaning about games I lost including the 3-1 defeat in extra time (I was Pompey)

same here, imo the only bugs that make the game "unplayable" are the finances for llm and the board expectations.
i've given up any long term game after being sacked for losing the charity shield and league cup (despite a CL and prem win!) and also being sacked for having the sheer audacity to get tranmere promoted before the board asked me to.

Fans are fickle </BLOCKQUOTE>
it quite clearly is a bug
i managed a draw at old trafford with tranmere and the fans weren't happy..... if it isn't a bug then it is the most comical attempt at "realism" i've seen in an fm.
This may not be a "bug" but does not re-flect what should happen here, and does need to be addresses by SI.
Fans may be fickle, but i dont think they should be so harsh in FM.
I have experienced this on many occassions now.
An example being Havant&Waterlooville reaching the 2nd round proper and losing to a L2 side after extra time.
My supporters spokesman was very dissapointed with our performance.
Dissapointed???????
A part-time team taking a L2 side to extra time and losing by the odd goal.
He should be proud!
Maybe the Supporters Spokesperson is an armchair fan who doesnt even bother going to watch the games. Probably just reads the Sports Mail on a saturday night and bases his assumptions on that.

If it's not a bug, it's poor programming. Fans aren't stupid, they generally have a good idea of how a team should perform against massive clubs and view any kind of giant killing performance as a bonus. The reaction of the Harrogate fans to the Man u defeat as described by the OP is totally unrealistic.
It's not a bug, it is a new feature that needs quite a bit of tweeking.
I also see it can be pretty hard getting a perfect balance in the game as there are many things to consider.
Rocketpants and Pilgrim - I understand what you are saying. I think its more of tweak than a bug
As understand things, the 'manager points' a manager accumulates is based on a number of things and this includes the level of the opponents team in comparison to that owned by the FM mangager when teams play each other. Its this evaluation I think that needs to be enhanced. to ensure a more realistic expectation of the result. I'm assuming something like this is also done when the betting odds are calculated so I'm sure the information is there
Other elements included are possession and attempts on goal so I suppose if your strikers were missing loads of chances, whilst you may have been playing harder opposition, your fans would still feel dissappointed in the result, if not surprised.
I think what SI could also do is to give some more insight into how supporter feedback is taken into account overall by your board e.g. 6-8 moans about games by the supporters is in the main ignored. 8-15 impacts board confidence somewhat, 16-24 will impact board's decision at cintract renewal, 24+ could result in a sacking. I use the number to illustrate an example, not what I would suggest
Sorry if you felt I dismissed your claims, I hope this details how I see it....which of course is not necessarily correct but at least an opinion for us to debate
