Have to say, have since loaded up an older save and it is relatively easy/OK selling players in the 2nd summer and beyond.
I think it's just the 1st summer that brings about issues - probably because in the AI's eyes (no word play intended), they haven't got any past performances to judge on - whereas in the future they can look at the previous season's performances.
Still, there's always the buying players issue to moan about :p

This part of the game needs major tweaking. I have various players of different abilities, wages, etc, and I can't get shot of them. I've tried offering them at various times in the season to clubs for nothing. Yet no-one wants them. It's totally unrealistic and means you end up with a big wage budget and big reserve squad.

Wish someone had told my strikers this

I've been experimenting with this feature a bit in FM08, and guess what? Eto'o and Henry given away for free; AND NO ONE'S EVEN INTERESTED!!! Tried everything now...

No doubt it's their high wages that are putting off every club in the world

Like the example with Drogba earlier in this thread. IRL all major clubs in the world would stumble upon each other to secure one of these guys! It's just annoying right?

It's one of the disappointing features that i wish SI had worked on (instead of adding the half arsed "board confidence" feature!!!) as i think titus bramble proved that clubs will sign almost ANYONE.
I can only hope they remedy this problem for FM09, because the several basic faults that keep coming up in successive FMs (see most of Dave Cs threads...)are irritating me, and only the lack of any decent competition is forcing me to buy FM (CM and FIFA manager still can't hold a candle to FM disappointingly).

When a top class player i am looking to offload, i offer at below value NO CLUBS INTERESTED???? how annoying. if i wanted to buy someone of his quality i needed, i need to fork out 2-3x minimum of his value! Very UNREALISTIC.
SI needs to fix this up!

problem ain't selling players, problem is AI making a decent offer for our players because AI bidings are just rediculous, i have one player and his worth 6M, fiorentina wants them and asks his price and i say 6M + 50% next transfer and then they refuse... but when he was in another team and i was trying to buy him they AI was biding him 5M when we was only worth 1.5M... the transfer system clearly shows that the game knows who is an Human team and an AI team and makes the transfer system unfair. another ridiculous thing is when transfer list a player and i set his transfer value at 10M and then AI asks me how much i want for him. excuse??? can't the stupid AI see that i set his value at 10M??? if i wanted to sell for less i would have set a lower value
