Excellent story that one, you know it would be interesting to give a person with a passion and knowledge of FM2008 a run at managing for a few days would be a great boost. Could even be a life changing moment.
Can't say I can ever see myself being a soccer manager, as I don't really understand the game enough, probably why my tactics are always wrong. However, IRL I am an aspiring rookie basketball and baseball coach, so does that count?
hey this happend once IRL it was even featured on FM frontpage in 2007!
The guy applied for Boro and they rejected him cos they did not one big clubs to come poaching their manager after one season of success lol
It would make for interesting reality TV. Get people to submit thier most succesful saves and get a friendly cup in charge of thier favourite team.
However, it is certainly possible to achieve for the ambitious out there. If you are starting from scratch you would have to start by going for your FA coaching badges. These require active participation in coaching from youth up through to senior teams.
You would essentially work and study your way up the pyramid taking the next coaching qualification when you qualify for it or just complete the previous one.
By the time you are looking at doing your top badges you will already be involved in the game at the higher levels and thus will be gaining plenty of experience. By the time you are considering your Uefa Pro licence you will have probably already managed professionally up to at least Championship level.
This is going back years but I'm fairly sure there was a guy from Iceland who started his own amateur team so he could go from FM to real life. He did post here so I guess some clever searching (which is beyond me) would uncover it.
The other week my girlfriend suddenly announced she’d put me down to manage a local kid’s team when the current incumbent leaves!
I don’t know what they’ll make of it when I give them their slider settings and opposition instructions, but they’ll be official warnings for poor performances if they don’t shape up!!
It’s prompted me to put myself down for the next FA level 1 coaching course in my area, so perhaps it will herald a glittering new career!
I’ve always been ludicrously optimistic about these things!
