not carlo cudicini, but almunia for arsenal, said in the paper that because he hasnt played for the spain team, so he said he would wait ? years to get an UK passport and be able to play for england.
of football, but also with kevin pieterson, he is south african, and he was in uk, for 4 yrs, so that he can then play for england cricket team

He actually pre-qualified for England due to an English mother, but had to sign a document saying he was intending to play for England.
He then had to do 5 years to qualify for residency.

Sorry, that went wrong...
Pietersen qualified for an English passport automatically through his English mother, but had to serve a 4 year qualifying period to establish residency in order to play for England.
Not the same as Cudicini/Almunia.

God I'm sick of this.
Where is ATW when yon need him?
He's the expert at leaving people even more confused than they were before they started.
1. In real life, if Cudicini decided that he wanted to play for England, and whatever idiot manager currently in charge of the national team decided that he was better than the plethora of decent English keepers and wanted to call him up to the National squad, he would still be unable to do so.
The reason for is that Cudicini has gained "British" Nationality and this does not allow him to represent any of the Nations within the British Isles.
There is currently a youth International player, playing for England who was not born in this country. He may well be the first test case player in a few years time as he grows older and if he continues to progress.
Any further questions, please do a search for a previous detailed discussion with ATW.

years to gain nationality can be adjusted in the editor.
| you are getting confuse here i think. Kanu certainly didnt stay in england just so that he could play for england. he represented nigeria already so he couldnt have play for another nations. </BLOCKQUOTE>
nope not confused. i was saying he wanted to stay to gain nationality, i never said anything about him wanting to play for england

just read jimbokavs post and i have to disagree. as far as i know a british passport qualifiies you to play for any of the home nations. n ireland are giving out that players eligible for them are opting to play for the republic which they are entitled to do as they hold irish passports.
if gaining a countries nationality doesnt make you eligible for that county jimbokav, explain how dudu is playing for croatia?

The British nations have a gentleman's agreement to only use players who have a birth relation to the particular country - be it themselves, their parents or their grandparents. They do not use the second nationality rule as a UK passport would in theory qualify a player for any of the four.
Also, this has been discussed countless times in the past, so why the people in here are unable to use the search function in here is beyond me. Beyond them too, clearly.

boo hoo nobby. forums are here for people to discuss what they want. so what if it has been discussed before, no two discussions are the exact same. so any time somebody has a question they have to search through every forum in case it has been mentioned before? if someone looks at this thread entitled carlo cudicini, they're supposed to know that the discussion continues on to passports and gentleman agreements etc?

If people actually used the search function like they should, they would find that this very same discussion, including passports and gentlemen's agreements has occured on a couple of occasions before. Not bloody difficult really is it.

so elsewhere on this site there is a discussion about soeone wanting cudicini to play for england and people such as me,dave c ,andiyunik have all posted our opinion on it???i doubt it. by the way take a look back and you weill see that you were the one to bring up the subject of gentlemen agreements.
if a thread bothers you, dont read it. not bloody difficult really is it.
