In FM it works how cudman is explaining.

When i bring in a young player who has no work permit and send him to belgium for 3 years, he can then play for belgium. And i know it works because i have seen it.

I'm fuzzy on the real life rules however.

No it doesn't. In FM, British Nationality doesn't exist.

I meant in the sense of:

Player plays in country for X years
Player can now play for this country, if uncapped at senior level.

So what if your grandparent is an immigrant and your family has resided in England since 1800?
Then your grandfather must have had his ***** frozen for some years if you want to play for england 207 years later? at the question

if yer born here yer eligible to play same if your mum and dad emigrated 30 years ago you can play for their native country
it is bounded by grandparents, so someone cant say they are n ancestor of william shakepeare and get a game

Dear ******

Many thanks for contacting The Football Association.

The following article was posted on TheFA.com clarifying the position of Carlo Cudicini (and others in a similar situation) - http://www.thefa.com/England/SeniorTeam/NewsAndFeatures...gs/2003/02/38978.htm

Thanks again for taking the time to write.

Kind regards,

just to clear, there is no such things as "English resident". You can be a resident of UK (via indefinate leave to remain). However that doesnt automatically give you right to play for any one of the home country unless you have direct link (i.e. one of your grandparents is come from the home country) </BLOCKQUOTE>
WRONG

Where is ATW when yon need him?

He's the expert at leaving people even more confused than they were before they started.

1. In real life, if Cudicini decided that he wanted to play for England, and whatever idiot manager currently in charge of the national team decided that he was better than the plethora of decent English keepers and wanted to call him up to the National squad, he would still be unable to do so.

The reason for is that Cudicini has gained "British" Nationality and this does not allow him to represent any of the Nations within the British Isles.

There is currently a youth International player, playing for England who was not born in this country. He may well be the first test case player in a few years time as he grows older and if he continues to progress.

Any further questions, please do a search for a previous detailed discussion with ATW.

no he didn't. you were saying
"5 years in england and you are eligible for a british pasport thus eligible to play for england",

while the rest of us, including ATW, said that you must be born in the Nation you want to play for, which is complete different from what you said. </BLOCKQUOTE>
