I hold this lead till around the 85th minute when I change things around (I had started shutting down the game earlier but this was the final part). I forgot that the AI normally swtiches to a 4-2-4 formation so I thought "I'll just wait for these tactics to come into effect then I'll go back in and change for the 4-2-4 formation) Did it change back? NO! from the 85th to the end of the game I could not go back into my tactics as it was waiting for a break in play. Not only did they score in the 90th minute they also went on to get a penalty in 93min 57sec when there was only suppost to be 3minutes of extra time!!!!

Needles to say the game is back in the box.

Anyone else had problems like this?
Of course. But sometimes is good, few days ago I make 3 substitutions at minute 62, and on 64 another player injured. Luckily, those 3 subs were still not done, so i could replace the injured player Also yesterday I was winning until 94:35 (only expected 3 minutes).

And the greatest (I have the match saved), I was winning a match by 93:00 (only 3 minutes were expected, muy my rivals scored on 94!!!! But then I scored again at 96:45!!!!

I was quite happy ^^

Agree- I even had the AI manager once bring on subs whilst my own changes were pending- took another 5 mins for my changes to take place.

Essentially if match flow is to work then certain tactical changes that be conveyed by hand movements (say width/defensive line/maybe tight marking?) should be instant.

Whereas more detailed instructions should be passed on with the subs.

What bugs me about this version is that you don't see it coming. I was playing as Forest against Derby away in my second season. I was 3-1 up and cruising. All the chances and possession was with me. All of a sudden, they scored from a 40yard free kick. I instantly tried to change but before I could they scored straight from the kick off (which seems to happen a bit too much). I mananged to set things up a bit more defensively, but it seems that my team were in shock. Long story short we lost 5-3. Four goals in the last 10 minutes.

I couldn't agree more. You only have to watch Rafa Benitez for 5 minutes to realize that some RL managers expect their tactical tweaks to take effect immediately.

You have to wait for a break in the play to make changes. It would be chaos otherwise, with players chnaging to the new tactics mid-move. If SI implemented this there would be so many complaints about conceding goals because they didn't change at a sensible - say for example, when they ball goes out of play!

As for the added time, it is the minimum stoppage time, not a definitive amount of time. If there are three minutes stoppage time and a player goes down injured for two minutes, the referee has to add two more minutes.

The other day I was playing a match which I'd lead 2-1 for a long time. Around 85 minutes I made a sub, and changed tactics with the AI at 4-2-4. It got to 90 minutes and the changes were yet to take place, and the AI changed to 2-3-5. The game passed onto 92 minutes, when I clicked on tactics

Any single change should happen immediately. How long does it take to shout "Go all out attack." More complex tactics should take longer. It also annoys me that you can't cancel tactics - if I want to sub off a striker and then he scores I'd probably prefer to keep him on and this has happened before. Or if a goal is scored you have to change tactics again to keep up with the game which takes more time out of the match.

Yeah, this happens all the time.

Usually the tactics will kick in late and the subs even later.

I guess it's just a by product of the new 'live' sub system in '08.

Thing is though, IRL, there would be a break between a manager definitely deciding on a new tactic and it being implemented. You'd have to wait for a break in play to pass the info onto a player...

But I've kinda got used to the delay. I just make my changes a few minutes earlier than normal. No big deal.
