one-nil was the first football sim i ever played and got me hooked on these games eventually. my first team was plymouth and i recall taking them pretty far thanks to some favorable draws in the cup competition.
i did play two-nil as well, somehow didnt seem as good as the first one. i managed to find one-nil out there somewhere as abandonware, just for some nostalgia |

That was my first management sim as well, and despite knowing absolutelynothing about football, I played the heck out of that game for many years.
I still have the original 5 1/4 disks somewhere here and have burned the program to a CD a few years back.

I don't remember that although I remember playing some old skool ones on the Amiga back in the day.
I think the first football simulator that seriously got me hooked was when Championship Manager 2 got released. Still have the english & italian league disks somewhere. lol.
Been playing every release since that. |

Somehow I think i missed these. Football director was my favourite back in the C64 days even though I had another one aswell and probably had 3 or 4 different football sims for the amiga500. Think some version of CM was the first one for PC.

First football maanagement game I played was Ultimate Soccer Manager. I miss some of the stuff that was in that game that isn't in FM, even if its not realistic for a manager to choose the price of burgers, ticket prices or how to expand the stadium...

That was a funny old game I spent USD 30 on. Players regenerator sucked though, basically the teams who finished top of the superleague get the cream of the crop, then decreased down the ladder.
I beat everybody playing ultra-offensive 3-1-1-2-3 (CCC-D-G-WW-$c$). Whoever played that game should know what I talk about. Funny the AI never exploited my exposed flanks both in the back and in midfield.
Also, you can manipulate the game by pressing Enter (Pause/Unpause) -- it made a difference between losing the ball and scoring a wonder goal.
I personally blame that game for my bad grades :-/

Have you seen the screenshots for it here?
Looks frighteningly like a DOS-based FM - It even seems to have a 2D match engine! |

Anyone played England Soccer Manager? If memory serves, it was a shareware game (for dos) made by some South African guy. I loved that game!
I've tried google, but no luck...

Graeme Souness Soccer Manager was my first one.
It was awesome, although not very detailed.
Best thing about it was the isometric 3d highlights engine.
Every shot had 2 videos, one with the shot going in, and the other exactly the same, but a miss. So when the highlight started, you had no idea if it was going in or not.
Back in the days when it didn't matter that whatever team you were, they would always be playing in red, and the opposition would always be in blue.
It was published by Zeppelin Games and (bafflingly) also seems to have been released under the title Peter Schmeichel Soccer Manager !?!
Man I loved that game.
