i have a 2.4 Ghz Athlon.

I started with 1GB RAM and recommended setup was 4 leagues in one country [england]

I upgraded to 2GB RAM and now recommended setup is 14 leagues in 4 countries [england, scotland, spain and italy]

now that's a difference
I wouldn't pay too much attention to the recommended setup if I were you. I have a slightly slower processor (2.33Ghz) and also 2 GB Ram and I can easily run 22 leagues in 10 countries.

If he is trying to brag with a Celeron processor then Id be surprised

For the original poster, get yourself an Intel Dual core processor, or even quad core. However the downside is your motherboard might need upgrading, which may mean you need to upgrade your RAM anyway

Intel's chips have been wiping the floor with Athlons the past year and ID certainly recommend them.

Games do not support quad core processors.

I have upgrade from Celeron D30 to P4 Prescott 3.0 1Mb cache and the speed difference is obvious, around 35-40% judging by frame rates.

OTOH your Celeron is more than enough for an manager game. It's not like Crysis for which minimal setup is P4 2.8 1GB RAM.
