Australian League Marquee/highest paid player rule??
I'm currently managing Melbourne Victory and i was wondering what the rule was on the Marquee/Highest paid players???
Right now my marquee is Milicevic, but he just signed with another club for next season. How does the marquee player fee work?? Will the marquee just automatically become the next person recieving the highest wage?? Does the board only allow you to give high wages to players they believe are worth it??
The thing is, I have another player that i bought a couple of seasons back that is looking for an upgrade to his contract which i am happy to give him, but he wants 8,000 a week. Milicevic is on a 5,750 p/w contract at the moment and after that i have another player on a 4,400 p/w contract.
How can i give my player the contract he wants?? Right now the board are only letting me offer him a 4,400 p/w contract but he wont accept it. Is there any other way?? Or do i just have to let him go??
Thanks

1) There is a salary cap of 14k (ie 14k of registered players). You can actually sign as many players as you can afford.
2) The marquee player is basically the most expensive paid player you have, his salary does NOT count towards the salary cap of 14k. So you really get 14k PLUS highest earner.
If you simply can't afford to pay his wages, bad luck, you might have to let him go.

It seems to be a rather weird rule, because it just means that once my highest paid player leaves it will just pass on the "marquee" to the next highest paid and i wont have a say in it. And it wont let me offer anyone a higher contract than them. It should really give you the option to sign someone as marquee. Like when you are offering them a contract, instead of offering them a first team player or key player contract, you should be able to offer them a marquee contract.
There has to be more to it then that. Because if it continues like this then my highest paid will always be given to my second highest paid with me having any say.

Well you do have a say in it when you register your player squad numbers. The highest earner at registration won't count towards the salary cap of 14k.
I'm not 100% though, I haven't played A-League that much yet. (Although i'm top with CCM after 15 games by 8pts )

Yeah but thats the tricky thing about it. How am i ment sign anyone to a contract at more than 4,300 p/w?? If i could sign the guy i wanted for on a 8,000 p/w contract then that would be great and then when the registration came up i wouldn't have a problem. But the thing is that it's not possible to offer a player more than the highest paid player at any stage, it doesn't matter if its Ronaldinho. You can't offer more than what the highest paid is getting.
Right now I'm guessing its only allowing me to offer the 4,400 p/w because now that Milicevic is going, thats the highest contract. But if thats the case, then how are you ever ment to offer someone esle a bigger contract than your highest paid player??
I'm going to try and wait to offer him a new contract when the season is over and before i have to register them for the new season to see if then it will allow me to do it.
P.S
How's Melbourne going in your game?? CCM aren't that bad a team. They are the ones that always cause me the most trouble and always finish second (behind Melbourne of course)
