The Belgian Rik Coppens was amazing. Many people agree that he was on a comparable level as Cruyff, Pele and Ronaldhino.
He was (and still is) a weirdo, a special one.
Barcelona, Inter, Napoli and all other real big teams wanted him. But in those times (the fifties) the football clubs acted as they were on the same line as the gods: Beerschot said 'no'.
He was an amazing footballer and an entertainer:
•He did several penalties with his heel and in his case it was goal!
•Before taking a penalty he pointed to which direction he would shoot.
•He scored several goals with his nose (kneeling down and then a little punch).
He was a dribbling wonder, could pass 5 or 6 men and had an unseen crochet.
I saw games of him on film and…it was indeed an incredible player.
You can see it halfway this movie, dated 1957 I believe.
I saw another movie where Rik is standing 1 meter from his own keeper and he demands the ball. Then he crosses the entire field with the ball, dribbling 7 men and then he stiffs the ball in the goal…
Even the opposition team members clapped in their hands.
