Obviously not, what can i possibly be doing wrong, saved a new database - started new game yet I have no option to change the database.

I cant help im afraid. When you start a new game a box should come up, it should be the default database. You have to click on it to bring a drop down list, there isnt a list without clicking on it.

When you start the game, you should see this screen:

Here it is

You then choose from the drop-down menu which database to use.

If the database you've saved is not in that list, the either you have only saved over the original database with your new one, or you haven't saved it in the correct folder.

You should save it in My Documents->Sports Interactive->Football Manager 2008->db

Weird one then mate. Maybe try the uninstall/reinstall idea then.

I read somewhere that if your using a "Cracked" version of 8.0.1 i.e. you have a No CD crack installed that was designed for version 8.0.0 then that wChoose a database" window will not appear.

And if your not using a cracked version then i have no idea. You could possibly try overwriting the default database files with the new ones you've created, but i suspect that could get messy so if you do try make sure to back up the files of the defualt database first.
