It would be absolutely useless to the people continuing saved games.
It would be absolutely useless to the people who get confused about where to download, how to apply the patch, or what version they have installed. How are they going to to know to look for this player?
It would be absolutely useless for the developers. The database and the code are seperate entities. One can change without the other changing. Identifying the version of the database does not identify the version of the code and could actually lead to mistakes.
It would be absolutely usless for network games to make sure they have the same version. "How old is Steve Clark in your game?" "What?" "How old is Steve Clark?" "Oh, him. Don't know. I deleted him, cos he wasn't real."
It would be useless for everyone else. "Now, was he 22 or 23 on the last version? Damn, I can't remember."
So to sum up, it would be absolutely useless. And it would cause more confusion than ever. Sorry.
