i would like to point out that there is a group of people in SI towers AFTER MIDNIGHT!!!!! working on the patch. how many of you (that are employed) would be willing to stay this late working on something for one of your customers? how many of you would say ' ah **** it, tomorrow will do, i'm tired'
I work in a retail store in Ireland. We have been recently voted the best Shop in the country, hence we are the best in the country. we break our balls every day for our customers, perfection is our target. saying that not one of us would do what the staff of SI are doing tomight to keep the customer happy. This is more than i would expect from any company tbh.
for those of you that they say they must do this because the game is 'broken' i say you are wrong. i happily play the game with the beta patch, no MAJOR problems, none of these 'showstoppers' i have already said that i know nothing about game design but i would guess that less than 2% of the game code is wrong. again, for those of you that do work, do you get your job 98% correct? i seriously doubt it as it is nigh on impossible.
i owe SI nothing. i am not licking arse. i buy a product from them, the is flawed (in a VERY small way in my personal experience), they work until MIDNIGHT to fix it.
I applaud the work ethic, i applaud the game. have been utterly hooked since the first cm (i was very young!!)
please do not take this as a rant, if you want to abuse me for this post, dont bother, what you think is utterly unimportant to me. if you want to reply rationally, please do. i would love to know what you think
\brek | Lol- you think SI are the only people who work long hours? Try IT or Law- or IT for a Law firm. There are loads of people who work very unsociable hours- so count yourself lucky if you think pulling a midnighter is something out of the ordinary.
Anyway back to the question- yeah I think with the exception of initial buggy release SI managed it pretty well, the key being the release of the beta patches, which imo kept the dogs at bay, and also meant SI got even more feedback.
I hope they continue with this model.

with regards to the testing......
there is only one product i know of with a 100% succes rate AFTER testing, the Honda V-Tec engine. several million produced and ot 1 engine failure yet, amazing
apparentlu not even 1, the engine is that good, as is their testing, picks up any duffer
all our product is rigorously qc'd andstill we have a 'failure rate of approx 4%, which is by far the lowest in our market....
in short.... testing is not foolproof
| Are you sure there has only ever been one engine failure on a honda v-tec??
Hmmmmm........................... </BLOCKQUOTE>

i worked 60 and 70 hour weeks every summer for 6 years to pay for private school (a waste) and college (I dropped out, D'oh). i know all about long hours, i work long hours myself, but not 12 hours every day. that is not my point anyway though. my point is that other similar companies, such as EA would not bother to patch a game, let alone put in long hours to do it. Most would have said 'ah **** it, lets go to the pub and watch the match', and then have gone home after. some of the si guys must have been there from 8 or 9 am, up to 15 hours to get a patch out. that, in my (fairly limited) experience of the games industry should be applauded.
