I enjoy FM08 a great deal now. However the OP raises some valid points and unless FM09 is a massive step forward, and not some useless new features and a data update, I wont be buying it.

To the people that say all PC games have bugs, yes they do.
However, critical bugs very rarely slip the net.
Bugs like the 5th December 2009 crash bug. Are you telling me not a single tester played the game past 5th December 2009 to realise that this bug existed before release? That is poor.
What about things like the contracts no being renewed properly, you don't think a tester should have noticed that before release? I mean most players noticed that quickly, so why didn't they.
The closing down bug? Did no tester really notice the way the players were behaving in the match engine before release?
These are things which should have been picked up and solved before the game was released, especially the 5th December 2009 bug, that is inexcusable.
I like SI, I like Football Manager, I am going to continue to play it. This was perhaps the poorest release so far in terms of bugs though and I hope critical bugs don't slip the mark next time. Bugs are one thing, but critical bugs that prevent gaming, that is not acceptable.

Do what I do save the game before the match and if you think the AI has cheated ( ) reload and play until yo get that real life result.
For instance I refuse as NUFC to be beaten by MU/Arsenal/Chelsea/Liverpool at their home grounds'.
So I make what I think is a realistic result - mind takes for ever to play 1 game.

you will have much better luck on ebay instead of SI.com
and my reaction for the above poster is: *sign* somepeople are just not intelligent enough to realize that there has just been a patch out </BLOCKQUOTE>
you mean *sigh*? thats the second time you wrote sign instead. Still your the intelligent one......

Honestly were any of you here when CM4 was released ? It was by far more bugged than any other release, for understanable reasons. I find it hard to understand the reaction this year - it is no different to ANY other year, I have been on this forum every release since CM4 (My ID got deleted at some point). FM08 is NOT the most bugged release at all.
Also if you actually read the first post he isn't saying he wont be buying it due to bugs. I too wont be buying it next year and it has nothing at all to do with bugs.

I absolutely agree with Bumface! To summarise what Bumface is saying is that: SI IS TAKING ADVANTAGE OF FAITH BUYERS! My qualm with SI is why do you have to repeat the same mistakes each year. I've been playing this since 2005 and like Bumface I said I won't buy this. Nonetheless, I got tempted and bought it. A major dissappointment. Also, I've never felt the need to complain until this release.

SI should have just made a massive effort to clear the game of bugs rather than adding to them with new features and a strange attempt to overwrite the previous two match engines which were coming along however slowly.
| So the game has improved in some areas or it hasn't?
And the match engine has either improved slowly or is flawed completely?

| Totally agree, the matchday experience is why my copy is going on ebay. I could try and live with shots looking like they are going to go over everytime, or even the stuttering graphics after a team scores. But the matchday experience takes the biscuit. How do you choose a reserve on this game if you need to look? Open filters promote player, see if he is fit, close filters zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz *****!

Are you telling me not a single tester played the game past 5th December 2009 to realise that this bug existed before release?
| This tester played past that date more times than he can remember and never once experienced a crash, so what does that tell you about that particular bug?
The closing down bug was picked up in testing and Paul C has already explained why it made it to the boxed version.
