danielewicz - I'm very much enjoying your story, and intrigued by it as it hints at a change in a key area of the game.

In past versions - '05 to '07, for sure - the board was very staid, and refused to take many financial chances. Taking out new loans was very very rare, for any reason.

I'm actually over the moon that your board was smart enough to recognize that promotion gave them a unique opportunity to increase the stadium size .. and then again to restructure the debt to make it manageable rather than a negative-balance... those are both huge steps up.

Even if it ends poorly for you (personally!) I'm still excited about it - teams haven't been willing to "shoot for the moon", taking Leeds-esque risks. I'm glad that they are, at least in your save - and if you can pack in the crowds once construction is complete, you will be too.

Even if they did have the gall to accuse you of culpability in the text of the Confidence section.

Yeah I know what you mean. It is a nice change and even if it diesn't work out for me - it still adds that realism to the game which I love :-)

I'm playing as FK Bryne from the norwegian adecco league(div 1). Got promoted to tippilegaen (premier) after first season and then came the ground improvements.

I DO understand why they(the board) did it as obviously they see the premier as a way of making money and a bigger ground is more often than not a rerquirement too. But dont understand why they are upset with me after all ... i didn't request it.

Anyway, long story short.... Just avoided relegation and was getting good attendences for the last few exciting home games of the season, so theyre back on my side again.

Doesn't really sound like a bug to me, i just think it wasn't really thought through well enough. They (the board) can be "saddened" if they want but SI should have made sure they dont lose confidence in you because of their(the boards) own mistake.

Totally agree with "Amaroq's" comment, it is good to see a bit of AI at work within the board now, unlike before when you could bet your house and dog that they would say no to every request!

Hope it goes well for you Danielewicz ..... as for me ..... i think i'm home and dry .... for now!

Cheers

That sounds great! But I'm doing very badly in my new season not won any games out of 7 yet and relegation seems are true possibilty. So yeah, I'm not making enough money to cover the expenses of the loan! This doesn't look good...

i would say get rid of any youth and reseerve players that wont make an impact at your club. it should generate greys for you and if you feel the need you may offer them contracts.
would probably save you 70-80k a year on wages.
if you really stuck sell a star with a 50% sell on fee, then buy him back yourself so you only pay half price for him

Hmm, there is NO possible way I could sell my star players - i would be relegated for sure. Speaking of relegated - anyone havfe a proven tactic to keep you from getting relegated? lol. I tried seling my youngsters but I have to pay huge fees to let them go. Not good!

Summary: 20th January - -£212,000 in debt!

Ok I stayed clear of relegation - just - and now ready to start my third season.

I am approximatley -£1,102,000 in debt. I am making no money from ticket sales even from high profile games (I got Real Madrid to play us at home and it was shown on TV)

Runing out of ideas hear... seems like I am going to have to sell my star players :-(

Why can't my board arrange a fan day? That should help. Its a shame you cant ask them to arrange one :-(

Congrats on avoiding relegation, d - well done.

What I'd do this summer is go through my entire squad looking for players who I think are overvalued, overpaid, or underutilized:

If overvalued, sell - hoping you can get a comparable player for less.

If overpaid, sell - just getting him off the books is "addition by subtraction" as they say.

If underutilized, sell - you can't afford the luxury of too many bodies.

Other than that, I think you're in deep enough that you pretty much have to hold on to your top players.

Either:

1. The board will restructure your debt again, or
2. The board needs to invest, or
3. They're running the club into administration, and the administrators will sell your top players for you.

(or
4. There's summer revenue coming, TV, etc, which should help
but I'm not holding my breath for that, and of course
5. The board may get taken over
and
6. You get sacked for going broke
doesn't really help us.)

You've just got to cross your fingers and pray pray pray for #1, #2, or #4.

On the tactics side, when I'm a bottom-feeder in a top-heavy world like EPL, Serie A, or La Liga, I try a very defensive tactic, and grind out nil-nil draws whenever I can. Usually that means a very defensive 4-5-1 with no more than 5 players given the freedom to get forward on a counter-attack.

The only time I'm really looking for a win is against fellow relegation battlers - and even then, I do it by defense and counter-attack shooting for a one-nil scoreline.

It works well enough.

(Not just saying that - from your tale so far, it sounds like avoiding relegation last season was a bigger accomplishment than anything which had preceded it!)
