First is the number of long range goals. when you've matched the oppsotion or whatever and they hit you with a 35 yeard creamer into the top corner. These don't happen very often in the top flight, let alone in League Two. But for some reason you concede (and score) a disproportionate number of long range efforts.
4-2-4. This is, as I said on another thread, the WORST thing about the whole game. I've not managed to make 4-2-4 work for me yet in many seasons over two versions. But the AI has an instant 'go-to' formation which will leave you on the back foot, regardless of how much better than them you have been throughout the season/match. 4-2-4 means THEY are in control and you have to stop them. Instant one-sided football.
Player AI. Many is the time that a defensive player could have got a ball but has moved away from it rather then going for the clearance. This often leads to conceding goals. Another example of this is when players just stop with the ball at their feet and let the opposition close them down and often come away with the ball.
Long passes. All too often a hurried clearance will loop over your defence and perfectly into the path of an opposition striker. I lose count of goals conceded when a League Two clogger has somehow developed the passing ability of Ronaldinho whilst being closed down by your forward. IRL nine times out of ten these clearances go out for a throw in. It's incredibly rare for a 'put your foot through it' clearance to set up an inch perfect attack at any level.
Player instructions and in particular the inability to ask the assistant about them. The experiment I've done is to go on holiday and see the results. Most of the time the results improve despite the formation and personell being the same. Clearly my Asst manager has the right idea on the individual instructions. So why am I not able to ask for his opinion? And why is it so wrong that I should expect a right back to play at right back with right back instructions and not actually be useless?
That damn 4-2-4 was a nuisance for me until I found a great way to counter it; Whilst playing 4-4-2 I side-arrow the Strikers and play "down both flanks" to counter the AI.
It amazed me how often I would score another goal, often two, to kill the game off.
