Ive been playing FM2008 since the game was released an CM before that, And my personal opinion is that it the worst version ever. It has been totaly over complicated from the earlier versions of FM and now you need to be tactical mastermind to get any degree of enjoyment from the game. Where have the good old days gone when you could get your favorite lower league club into the premier league and into Europe "without" having the tactical nous of Fergie or Jose. That was when the game was enoyable, Ok it wasnt realistic for Hartlepool United to be in the Premier League but you got hours of enjoyment bringing top stars to your home club instead of making dozens of tactical changes throught a game only to be beaten by an over complicated match engine. Not all of us want to spend hours making a tactic, we just want to play the game. We pay £25 for a computer game to relax and enjoy not get stressed and raise our blood pressure.
doea anybody else agree? please post here!
P.S whats your best version of FM or the Old CM?
you don't need to be a tactical mastermind as i am not and i get enjoyment and success.
if you pay 25£ for a game to give you a specific thing then you need to do your homework.
i want to pay 25£ for a top class tactical management sim so i buy fm. if i want to pay 25£ for a simplified uncomplicated management game then i'll be cm.
if i want to pay money for an easy to get into no need for a 5 inch thick instruction manual i'm not going to buy microsoft flight sim.
Frustrating tactically and very hard to get results even with good sides? Yep, in my experience at least. I'm really struggling to find a tactic that actually works and I must confess that's affecting my enjoyment of the game.
Its getting really depressing reading through so many of these threads. I mean, seriously, what the hell is the point in playing a game if you are just going to win every time with no effort, regardless of who your players are, just because you've got a killer tactic? Why don't you just play minesweeper?!
obviously the small one, stay away from that "intermediate" level, phew! Rock hard, let me tell you.

ha. 82 seconds to complete the expert minesweeper my best score ever
Tactical masermind? Hardly. I'm an American who knew nothing about the football world or game two years ago. I bought fm06 because I heard about the great depth of the game, skipped 07 because I was enjoying 06, play slowly, and wanted to get my money's worth out of 06. I decided
it was time to upgrade this year with 08 and am very happy I did.
I read the "rule of one" thread in the tactics forum for v07 and developed my tactics for 08 using RoO as a guideline. I am having good success with my Cambridge City squad in the BSS. I watch all 90 minutes of my matches and really enjoy the tactical challenges the game brings. Is the game to complicated and requiring masterminds to play? I don't think so. Look at me, my knowledge of football is still in it's infancy and yet I am successful. Is the game time-consuming partly because of the tactics (very much part of the manager's job)? Yes it certainly is and that's the way I like it YMMV
