Nearly fell off my chair when I read this, but Winona Ryder has been announced at Star Trek.com as playing the mother of Spock in the Star Trek "prequel" due out in a year. She's only six years older than Heroes' Zachary Quinto, qho plays young Spock, but she does have a pretty impressive CV (and criminal record...).
With JJ Abrahms, Leonard Nimoy, Eric Bana and now Ryder, does anyone really give this a chance?
On the one hand, I'd like to see Star Trek capture a new generation of fans, but on the other, it is a huge risk, with a budget of over $150 million - far more than any in the series' history. Better to fade out quietly than go out with a massive flop...
