good manager and all, but that's going more than a little overboard, isn't it? </BLOCKQUOTE>
Not at all. Did a superb job with Ipswich, got England to the WC quarters in '86 and then the semi in 90. Won titles in Holland (PSV), Portugal (Porto and Sporting) and also did a treble with Barca during his time there. He also did a superb job of reinvigorating Newcastle, but ultimately stayed a bit too long. However in his defence, he was let down quite badly by some so called senior players (Dyer, Jenas) to name but two.

Robson is a legend in european football management, and is the last really top class England manager (we have no-one at the moment who is anywhere near his class tbh)
In my opinion Newcastle sh!t on him when he needed to be backed (most notable some senior players as BG suggests as well as Freddie Sheppard) and have gone backwards since he was there. If they had backed him and got rid of the trouble makers I reckon they would have a trophy by now. A lot of fans said he was over the hill and past it because he forgot the odd player name and missed a few words in interviews, but yesterday he sounded sharp as a tack considering what he has gone through.
Top man

| Really? I mean, really? Don't get me wrong, he is one of my favourite all-time managers and a real gent to boot, while his international management efforts are very impressive. But was his effect on Newcastle really so big that he is seen as part of the folklore up there?

Thing with Bobby is you've no idea what he's on about these days, could have been announcing his retirement or what he had for lunch.
Shame to see him leave the game but he's been fairly low profile for a while now

The guy is an absolute legend of the English game and is an icon of one of the most important era's in the game.
Real shame this is his last game in football, I just love listening to the guy talk football. Lets hope he does some work on radio or Sky or something.

In senior I guess he means players that Bobby thought he could rely on as role models for the younger players.
One of the few things he ever did wrong in my eyes
Happy retirement, Sir Bobby.
